27th August 2010:We wrote some acrostic poems about the planets and the sun. We worked together to create the best acrostic poems using our knowledge of the planets and our own creative thinking!

Venus
Venus is the easiest planet you can see
Even though it’s the second closest to the sun

Nothing on Venus is cold except the rain

Up high in the sky

Surfaces are very, very hot on Venus because there are heat waves

By Cilla, Grace & Gemma
Mercury

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun
Everything is…
Really HOT!! It has lots of
Craters
Unless you have a telescope it is
Really hard for
You to see

By Henry, Xavier & Jamie

16th August 2010:there are lots of planets in space. did you know that the planet we live on is EArth. the sun is not a plsnet. can you guess wot it is? it is a star..9th August 2010:

Explanation Writing

We are learning how to write explanations and today we all had the chance to peel a carrot. By doing this we learnt how a peeler works and the name of each part. Here is our brainstorm of what we found out (to help us structure our explanation) and a video of the experience.

Editing and Proofreading

We are learning how to proofread our writing for spelling and edit our writing by including more interesting words.

In the holidays I stayed at a scenic motel. I stayed at the motel with my family who are Mum, Dad and Madison. The motel was at Paihia and we went on lots of adventures. I went to Russel and Kerikeri and looked around. The best thing I saw was signs of famous people that died. I went on a wooden bridge that took us over a lake.

In the holidays my family went to Mt Cheeseman and I also skied. It was sososososososososo fun because when you have learnt how to ski you can do it by yourself! I even went down the mountain and it felt weird because the wind was blowing in my face and the snow was splatting onto my face too.

Similes

29th April 2010: We are learning how to use similes in our writing so our ideas are more descriptive. We used a character called Mr Bitter from the book 'Mr Bitter's Butter' to learn about writing great similes.

To be successful at writing similes about Mr Bitter we needed to:
  • select a part of Mr Bitter and compare it to something else.
  • use the words LIKE or AS in the simile.
  • include adjectives, verbs and nouns in our similes so a picture of our simile is created in our reader's head.
